John Arrucci is an acclaimed master artist. He has composed, performed and instructed for over 25 years. He has studied on three continents, written for all mediums, and received numerous honors. His intimate knowledge of Classical, Jazz, North Indian, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and other indigenous traditions gives him--and his audiences--a singularly rich perspective on the creation and impact of music.

Princeton University has been Arrucci's classroom home for nearly 20 years, where he has educated, inspired and engaged thousands in the art of percussion. He has lectured and conducted master classes at Eastman School of Music, Mannes College of Music, University of Bahia in Brazil, Manhattan School of Music, Witchita State University and other prominent institutions. Public and private schools in growing numbers have delighted to Arrucci's spirited percussion programs.

Arrucci graduated with distinction from Eastman School of Music. The Smithsonian Institution awarded him a post-Doctoral research fellowship to study tabla in Benares, India with the celebrated teacher and instrumentalist Pandit Sharda Sahai. This was followed by a Rotary Foundation graduate fellowship to study Bahian music in Brazil., where according to the Tribune of Bahia he “influenced the explosion of Bahian music”.  He also studied Shekere and Agbe with the renowned Chief James Hawthorne Bey, and conga and Afro-Cuban drumming with one of its leading exponents, Frank Malabe.

His work as percussionist is featured in many motion pictures, among them Arlington Road (starring Tim Robbins and Jeff Bridges), Killing Zoe (a Roger Avary/Quentin Tarantino production), and Rachel Portman's score for The Truth about Charlie.

He has recorded music for The Oprah Winfrey Show and other top-ranked TV programs as well as performed with Mariah Carey on The Rosie O'Donnell Show. AT&T, Coca-Cola, Saab, Volvo, Snapple and other leading brands have showcased Arrucci's percussion work.   He has performed or recorded with, Michael Brecker, David Byrne, Livingston Taylor, The Brooklyn Philharmonic, Philip Glass Ensemble, Oliver Lake and many others. His compositions have been performed around the world, and he has been commissioned by members of the New York Philharmonic, the Manhattan Marimba Quartet and a notable list of other patrons.
